Ep. 2 Make Room For Rumi — story theatre

Story Theatre resides uninvited on the unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, also known as the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nation. These territories include familial lines to the lək̓ʷəŋən (Chekonein, Chilcowitch, Swengwhung, Kosampsom, Whyomilth, Teechamitsa, Kakyaakan, Songhees, Esquimalt) and W̱SÁNEĆ (SȾÁUTW/Tsawout, W̱JOȽEȽP/Tsartlip, BOḰEĆEN/Pauquachin, WSIḴEM/Tseycum) Peoples. Story Theatre expresses humility and gratitude to the local Peoples and Nations in this region including the MALAXEt (Malahat), Scia’new (Beecher Bay), T’Sou‐ke (Sooke), Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Peoples.

As storytellers, we have a responsibility to lək̓ʷəŋən, W̱SÁNEĆ, and all Indigenous people, to the land, and to recognizing the ongoing colonial violence enacted on Black, Indigenous, and people of colour globally. We all have a role in dismantling oppressive systems of knowledge and being.
