1002 Nights by Izad Etemadi

Scheherazade and her sister Dunyazade love stories! They live with stories, beside stories, inside stories, and through stories. One night, their sleep is disturbed by a poet's nocturnal lament so they go forth into the unknown with nothing but each other and their narrative tales. Through songs, storytelling and some good jokes, the adventure leads them to the source of the heartbroken sobs that now wrack the Kingdom nightly. Do the sisters have the power to help this poet in despair? This upbeat production showcases storytelling from The Arabian Nights collection and features pop music, puppetry & poems by Rumi. Written and Directed by award-winning Iranian-Canadian writer, Izad Etemadi!

Bluebeads and Blueberries by Erin Macklem

A Métis re-imagining of an old English folk tale. When a father asks his daughters how much they love him, he feels slighted by the response of his eldest and sends her away. This sets her off on an adventure of self-discovery, one brimming with beaded earrings, woven sashes, and traditional jigs. Blue Beads and Blueberries transforms an ancient fairy tale into a celebration of Métis culture.

The first phase of development was commissioned and supported by Story Theatre (2018) with the generous support of The Province of BC, The Capitol Regional District Arts Commission, The Canada Council, The BC Arts Council, and TELUS.

Story Club: Storytelling Kits for BC’s Isolated Learners

Working with Illustrator Sophie Fuldauer, Story Theatre designed 4 unique activity kits to encourage children to learn the craft of storytelling while practicing their own language arts skills.

The kits are filled with games, crafts, and placemaking neighbourhood challenges. Actors and Teaching Artists Monica Ogden, Tenyjah McKenna, and Pedro Siqueira worked as storytellers for the program to create Youtube videos and answer kid’s letters as the Club’s official Pen Pals.
