We are proud to announce the world premiere of Dreamweavers by Adonis Critter King, in partnership with the BC Black History Awareness Society (BCBHAS) to be presented at the Metro Studio Theatre June 5, 6, 8, 11-14, 2025 for 10 performances!

School matinees and public performances will be offered in celebration of the International Decade of People of African Descent with noteworthy support from the Province of BC, BC Arts Council’s Arts Impact Award, the Capital Regional District’s Arts Commission, the Victoria Foundation, and sponsorship from Victoria on Stage Musical Theatre (VOS)!

For two years, Adonis Critter King has been developing Dreamweavers as part of Story Theatre’s Writer’s Room program for playwrights working to create theatre for young audiences. Story Theatre and BCBHAS are excited to welcome Adonis back to Victoria as part of our 24/25 season!

Play Synopsis

Trickster spirit Fox has stolen Anansi the Spider God’s Web of story and dream. Now Fox can rewrite every dream ever dreamt and every story ever told, reshaping the world to the whims of his cruel nightmares.

To save the world from Fox's destructive vision, Anansi enlists the help of Bugaboo, a compassionate human child plagued by nightmares. Together, Bugaboo must learn to harness the ancient power of Dream Weaving, travel through the world of dreams, and repair Anansi’s web, before it’s too late.

Can Bugaboo master the magic of Dream Weaving to unlock the revolutionary power that lives within them? Or will Fox’s dream destroy the world?

Dreamweavers by Adonis Critter King is a brand-new play for young audiences that blends Jamaican, West African, and British folklore and fables into an adventure story with an Afro-surrealist twist.
