1002 Nights is a World Premiere of Izad Etemadi's play commissioned by Story Theatre.

Touring Performance

1002 Nights

An update to the seminal 1001 Nights featuring pop music, puppetry, and poems by Rumi.

Scheherazade and Dunyazad live with (and in! and through!) stories. When their sleep is disturbed by a Poet's nocturnal lament, they go forth into the unknown with nothing but each other and their stories. With poetry, songs, storytelling and some good jokes, the adventure leads them to the source of the heartbroken sobs that wracks the Kingdom nightly. They are the wails of a young Prince, conflicted by duty, looking for the freedom to be themselves. Do Scheherazade's stories have the power to save them?

1002 Nights is a brand new Canadian play written by Iranian-Canadian playwright Izad Etemadi with designs by Sophie Fuldauer and original music by Roya Yazdanmehr & Farhad Khosravi. The upbeat production showcases stories from the seminal collection 1,001 Nights and also features pop music, puppetry and poems by Rumi.
